SST – Workplace First Aider Training

Why take First Aid at Work training?

In accordance with labor regulations, employers are required to organize emergency response procedures within their company.
This includes setting up an alert system in the event of an accident and ensuring the presence of specially trained staff. In the absence of a nurse, these staff members will provide first aid until professional emergency services arrive.

Job-related Skills

  • Read and understand product labels
  • Identify CMR (Carcinogenic, Mutagenic, Reprotoxic) substances
  • Understand health risks
  • Apply prevention measures related to chemical hazards

ROLE OF THE SST
The role of the workplace first aider (SST) is to provide initial emergency assistance to a victim, potentially saving lives. The intervention takes place during the first critical minutes until professional help arrives.
The SST acts within the company but can also assist anyone in need as a citizen (Article 223-6 of the French Penal Code).
The SST also plays a key role in risk prevention, identifying dangerous situations and reporting them to management.

Key Knowledge:

  • The SST’s role inside and outside the company

  • Workplace accident statistics by sector

  • Specific risks and appropriate responses

  • Emergency phone numbers

  • First aid equipment availability and condition (first aid kit, AED, etc.)

  • Internal emergency and prevention personnel

  • Health and safety record keeping

LEGAL FRAMEWORK
The SST is limited:

  • In time: intervenes immediately until professional help arrives

  • In resources: uses only the first aid kit or company-authorized equipment

  • In location: acts under employer responsibility within the company, and under personal responsibility outside of it
